The BCU White Water Safety & Rescue training course is designed for all paddlers operating in a moderate white water environments in either kayak or canoe. In addition, the training is required for those seeking their 4 star leader award in white water kayak or open canoe.
Full course information

This course is 2 days of highly experienced paddlers and coaches showing and giving you the opportunity to learn how to appropriately apply safe and simple rescue skills in a the dynamic white water river environment.

Course content will cover the following:

  • Safe paddling strategies
  • Recovery of a swimmer
  • shouting rescues
  • reach rescues
  • Throw-line rescues
  • Boat based swimmer rescues
  • Live bait rescues
  • Knots
  • Entrapment rescues
  • Wading techniques
  • Recovery of equipment
  • Scenarios

Equipment

Throughout the course we are able to supply all specialist equipment, although we ask that you bring all your own personal paddling equipment and warm clothing. The course is bank, boat and water based and you will be expected to spend time in the water.
